Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager of HV Electrical Engineering to lead the design and execution of substation electrical design.
This role is responsible for providing technical leadership across substation physical (primary) and protection & control (secondary) engineering, overseeing engineering teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects from early development through detailed design and construction support.
The Manager will collaborate closely with civil, structural, transmission, SCADA/communications, PSS and project management teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions for utility-scale energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership across substation physical and protection & controls engineering design.
- Serve as the technical lead for high-voltage engineering across renewable energy and grid interconnection projects.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, design practices, and quality procedures for HV electrical systems.
- Provide guidance on substation related challenges, protection philosophy, grounding systems, and grid integration strategies.
- Mentor and develop a team of electrical engineers, designers, and protection engineers.

Engineering Design Oversight
Oversee development and review of key engineering deliverables, including:
Substation Physical Design
- Substation general arrangements and equipment layouts
- Bus configurations and interconnection schemes
- Grounding and lightning protection systems
- Cable routing, trenching, and conduit plans
Protection & Control Design
- One-line and three-line diagrams
- Protection system architecture and relay coordination
- Protection and control schematics
- Wiring diagrams and panel layouts
- Control house layouts and I/O architecture
- SCADA and communications integration
Project Documentation
- Bills of materials
- Equipment specifications
- Design calculations
- Construction drawing packages
- Commissioning documentation

Project Execution & Coordination
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering efforts with civil, structural, transmission line, PSS, and SCADA/communications teams.
- Support engineering execution across all project phases including:
- Conceptual and feasibility studies
- Detailed engineering design
- EPC support and construction execution
- Commissioning and energization
- Ensure engineering deliverables align with project schedules, budgets, and technical requirements.
- Provide constructability reviews and technical support during procurement and construction.
- Support field issue resolution, RFI responses, and design modifications during project execution.

Client & Project Interface
- Act as the technical point of contact for clients on HV electrical scope.
- Participate and lead the technical meetings, design reviews, and utility coordination.
- Interface with developers and EPC’s regarding project design elements and interconnection requirements.
- Support development of technical reports, engineering studies, and design justifications.

Business Development & Strategy
- Support proposals, estimating, and technical pursuits for new projects as needed
- Contribute to business growth by improving engineering and QA-QC processes, design tools, and internal standards.
- Assist in evaluating new technologies and solutions for renewable energy and energy storage integration.
- Support recruiting and onboarding of new engineering talent.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems (preferred)
Experience
- 7+ years of experience in power systems or substation engineering
- Experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar PV and/or BESS) strongly preferred
- Experience with designing high-voltage substations (typically 69 kV – 500 kV)

Professional Credentials
- Professional Engineer (PE) (mandatory)
